Wales in Venice 2026 — Invigilator+ Programme
The Wales in Venice programme, developed through Arts Council of Wales and Cardiff School of Art & Design, offers emerging artists and curators the opportunity to engage directly with the contemporary art ecosystem surrounding the Venice Biennale.
As part of the Invigilator+ programme, the experience extends beyond exhibition mediation into a broader encounter with curatorial practice, international exhibition-making and contemporary artistic dialogue. Alongside the time spent in Venice, the programme included studio visits, conversations with artists and curators, and direct engagement with the development of the Welsh pavilion and its wider context.
For me, the programme became an important point of reflection on how contemporary exhibitions function not only as spaces of display, but as structures of encounter, research and exchange. Experiencing these processes from within reinforced my growing interest in curatorial practice and in the relationship between painting, exhibition-making and public engagement.
