Pablo Negre is a Spanish artist and curator based between Spain and Wales. His practice moves between painting and curatorial work, exploring image-making as a space of emotional, physical and perceptual encounter. Working across large-scale painting, drawing and installation, his work investigates how gesture, memory and material can construct unstable forms of presence.

Developed during his studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University, his practice is informed by phenomenological approaches to perception, alongside an ongoing interest in the relationship between abstraction, figuration and emotional residue. His paintings often emerge through accumulative processes of layering, erasure and improvisation, allowing forms, creatures and fragmented narratives to surface gradually through the act of painting itself.

Alongside his studio practice, Negresd has developed a curatorial line of work centred on dialogue, artist-led initiatives and international exchange between Welsh and Spanish contemporary art contexts. He is currently associated with BayArt, where his curatorial and collaborative projects continue to expand through exhibitions, residencies and cross-cultural initiatives.

Painting and curating function within his practice as parallel ways of constructing encounters: spaces where image, body and atmosphere can remain open, unstable and emotionally activ

Painting and curating are, for me, two forms of the same gesture: making a place where an encounter can happen. If you are working on an exhibition, a publication, a project, or have something you would like to share, I would be glad to hear from you.
